US Congressional Maps Released

U.S. Reps. Mike ROGERS and Thaddeus McCOTTER would be redistricted into the same seats and U.S. Rep. Candice MILLER would need to move a few miles north to live in her seat under congressional redistricting maps commissioned by MIRS and drawn by Target Insyght.

U.S. Rep. Sandy LEVIN's (D-Southfield) 11th District would stay entirely in Macomb County, but would only have a 54 percent Democratic base. He, too, would have to move to keep the Warren/Sterling Heights/Clinton Township-based district.

The maps create 14 districts drawn with the focus on being compactness and political fairness while following, as closely as possible, state Apol standards and the U.S. Voter Rights Act. The maps create five Republican-based seats, five Democratic-based seats and four swing districts.

Under the maps, U.S. Rep. Gary PETERS' 9th Congressional District would stay entirely in Oakland County, but would have a 51 percent Republican base. U.S. Rep. John DINGELL's 14th Congressional District would no longer include Monroe County.

Instead, U.S. Rep. Tim WALBERG would have Monroe and much of Ingham County, including the city of Lansing. The Democratic base in Walberg's new 7th District would be 52 percent.
